spring yet?

quick updates are certainly in order...

work has been crazy busy as ever. working at a non-profit in the midst of an economic downturn is interesting, especially when that non-profit still shows signs of solid growth. that growth is understandably less than in recent years, which is causing more stress on upper management. what does that mean for me? in a nutshell it's more work. in the middle of this, world vision international has moved it's finance division up to federal way to join with world vision united states in a shared services global centre. anyway, the point is that work has been insanely busy, but certainly still very rewarding.

moving has been on the front of our minds recently for several reasons. first, we're tired of sharing our home with frisky 20 lb squirrels in our attack and a chain smoking retiree living below us. our lofted apartment seemed cool at the time, but over the winter was downright cold! it's quite difficult to heat a place when you've got 20 foot ceilings and heating elements strategically placed below windows, skylights and the highest point of our apartment. helping greg and sara move last weekend has given us the urge to start packing, and we think we've found a place to move. if everything works out, we'll be neighbors with blake and sarah very soon! the apartment costs essentially the same in rent, but has a gas fireplace, is in a gated community, has an extra bedroom and is only a few years old. bring on the u-haul!

since the last post, greg and i have started working on plans for our microbrewery which we are tentatively naming taboo brewing. the name comes from the many conversations we have had regarding the american church and it's post-temperance views on alcohol. the first brew was a pale ale called taboo dew, and boy was it a winner. as with all good pale ales, the moneymaker on this beer is the beautiful hop flavor, golden hue, and monstrous head. however it also has a nice balance of malt when enjoyed at just below room temp. we are pretty sure we've got a winner with the dew.

last night we brewed a sweet (milk) stout using a partial mash and a good amount of lactose in the brew. we've got a good feeling about this baby as well, and can't wait to enjoy it. it looks gorgeous.

...and baseball has started! we got two seats and blake and sarah got two seats as well in a 16-game pack for the mariners this season. our first game is the 12th against the angels, and i'm stoked! should be a good season for the mariners.

that's all for now. off to play some halo 3. peace.
